How we helped a vehicle manufacturer improve its component lifespan. Our client makes aluminium car doors for major vehicle brands. As part of their finishing process they use abrasive discs, which wear down and need to be regularly replaced.
Assessing the options
We explored the abrasives market and identified two potential alternative abrasive discs, one of which was more expensive than the existing discs.
Putting them to the test
By conducting a three-week trial of each disc we discovered both performed better than the existing discs, but the most expensive option significantly out-performed its competitors.
Spend more, get more
It’s not always true, but in this case thanks to the improved performance and longevity, the company was able to make initial savings of over £50,000 just by switching to the more expensive disc. We’re now working with the company to identify more savings opportunities of this nature.
